The Great Pole Debate
Several of us have had the discussion - many of us are undecided .... are the suggested poles going to be useful or not. They are another expense and they do get in the way, especially over stiles and therefore presumably when clambering up/down steps!! Well I have now come to a conclusion having consulted with someone who trekked the Wall (same route) in March. Yes - sounds as if they are essential because she found that one pole was "very useful", she said mainly for stability when there was nothing else to hang onto!!! Just thought I'd share that with you.

I have heard the same thing - that at least one pole is worth having.
I've just got myself one - second hand off a friend at work (very cool - it even has a shock absorber in it!) I traded it for some TrekChina raffles tickets!!!)
I'm a bit undecided about two poles though. In my case I'll always have a camera in one hand anyway!!!
I agree with Ken.
I used one pole on the practice walk and couldn't find a use for it other than for prodding others along and stick fighting.
UNTIL, the descent which was quite rocky and slippery. It really helped keep the weight off my ankles. I'm pretty sure it spared me a sprained ankle.
I would definitely recommend at leaset one. If you want to tone your biceps evenly, I would go for two!
